E-Blurb  July 2007

Greetings Everyone,

As the lazy days are zooming by, we hope you are having a green and relaxing summer. Here is an update on some of REACT’s recent activities:

*       Climate Change Presentation – June 7. It was great to see so many interested residents!  We thanked Dr. Blair for his fine presentation by delivering a basket of local prairie perennials for his backyard garden. He was trilled and offered to come back to Stonewall to discuss environmental issues whenever he is invited.

*       On June 23, a number of REACT and Town of Stonewall volunteers picked up and delivered Household Hazardous Waste products to the site in Selkirk, as part of our commitment to the HHW Roundup they hosted. The operation was very well organized and many residents took advantage of the opportunity to get rid of old paint cans, batteries, solvents and the like.  Thank you to everyone for your contribution, large or small.

*       Volunteers are in the midst of rejuvenating the Tall Grass Prairie, west of the hospital parking lot.  Phase One, desiccating weeds, has been completed and a corps or volunteers will assist John Morgan is the cultivation and re-seeding in the near future.  To join the crew you can contact Joel Edwards at 467-8208.

*       The REACT executive recently met with Community Futures East Interlake to discuss a business plan and sources of funding.  It was a very exciting meeting and we hope to share our plans with interested residents and REACT volunteers at our next meeting.

*       Quarry Days is quickly approaching and REACT will be setting up a booth in conjunction with Resources Conservation Manitoba.  We have some great ideas but could use some more.  If you have time, energy and ideas please call Robyn at 467-5963 and/or come to the next REACT meeting.

*       Check out the REACT website - currently under construction. Karl Daher is working hard to fill the site with great stuff.  If you have environmental tips or concerns, or to register, visit REACTinc.org.
